Batteries for radio-controlled cars

The battery powers the motor and electronics of an RC car. Common technologies include NiMH, Li-ion and LiPo, each with different characteristics for weight, capacity, current delivery and care.

Choosing a compatible RC battery

Check the battery chemistry, nominal voltage, cell count, capacity, dimensions, connector and the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. Common connectors include Tamiya, Deans/T-Plug, XT60, XT90, EC3, EC5 and JST, but compatibility must always be verified for the specific model.

Charging and storage safety

• Use a charger and programme designed for the battery chemistry and cell count.
• Follow the battery manufacturer’s specified charge current and voltage limits.
• Balance-charge multi-cell LiPo packs using the balance connector.
• Never use a swollen, damaged, wet or punctured battery.
• Charge batteries under supervision on a non-flammable surface and follow the manufacturer’s storage instructions.
