This kit recreates the rare de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito NF Mk.XV high-altitude night fighter in 1/72 scale.
It differs from more familiar Mosquito variants through its extended-span wing, pressurised cockpit, nose-mounted radar and four-bladed propellers. Special Hobby describes it as the first injected-plastic model kit of this unusual version. Two RAF liveries are included.
The Mosquito NF Mk.XV was developed in response to German Junkers Ju 86P and Ju 86R high-altitude reconnaissance and bombing operations over Britain.
For very high-altitude interception, this version received a pressurised cockpit, a wing spanning 19 metres and Rolls-Royce Merlin 76 engines driving four-bladed propellers. Nose-mounted radar also enabled night-fighter missions.
Only a small batch of these Mosquitos, nicknamed “Fifteens”, was produced. They were assigned to No. 85 Squadron of the Royal Air Force for flight testing, making the NF Mk.XV one of the rarest and most distinctive Mosquito variants.
Special Hobby is a Czech plastic-model manufacturer with a catalogue of military and civilian aircraft, especially unusual types and variants.
This kit allows modellers to represent a particularly uncommon high-altitude version of the famous British twin-engine aircraft.
