Discover Kyosho Mini-Z radio-controlled cars

Kyosho Mini-Z cars are compact radio-controlled models, commonly around 1/28 scale, designed mainly for indoor driving and racing. First introduced in 1999, the range has developed through numerous chassis, bodies and upgrade options.

Main Kyosho Mini-Z chassis families

MR-01

The original 1999 rear-wheel-drive platform. It has since been replaced by more advanced generations but remains important in Mini-Z history.

Original documentation: instruction manual and exploded diagram.

MR-02

A successor to the MR-01, designed with a lower centre of gravity and revised weight distribution.

MR-03

A versatile rear-wheel-drive platform widely used for circuit racing and compatible with many Mini-Z body configurations when the correct wheelbase, width and motor layout are selected.

MA-010 and MA-020 AWD

All-wheel-drive platforms particularly associated with Mini-Z AWD racing and drifting. The MA-020 introduced revisions and additional setup possibilities compared with the MA-010.

MB-010 Mini-Z Buggy

A four-wheel-drive buggy platform with independent suspension, designed for a different type of surface and driving experience from the low on-road racers.

Mini-Z Formula

Low, lightweight models styled after single-seater racing cars and intended for smooth indoor tracks.

MR-04

A newer rear-wheel-drive racing platform. Specifications and compatible radio systems vary by version, so check the exact product reference.

Other Mini-Z formats

  • Mini-Z Racer: detailed road and racing-car bodies for circuit use.
  • Mini-Z AWD: four-wheel-drive models popular for grip driving and drifting.
  • Mini-Z Buggy: compact off-road-style models.
  • Mini-Z Overland and 4x4: raised, off-road-oriented vehicles depending on generation.
  • Mini-Z Formula and Moto Racer: specialist formats produced within the wider Mini-Z history.

Options and upgrades

A broad range of components allows owners to maintain and tune compatible Mini-Z models:

  • Motors: selected according to chassis and electronics compatibility.
  • Suspension: springs, dampers and setup parts can alter handling.
  • Tyres: different compounds and profiles suit grip racing or drifting.
  • Body shells: detailed reproductions can be changed when dimensions, wheelbase and chassis layout are compatible.

A serious small-scale RC category

Mini-Z racing has developed its own community, tracks and tuning market. Brands such as Atomic, GL Racing, X-Power and PN Racing also offer compatible parts or competing small-scale chassis. Always confirm compatibility with the exact Mini-Z generation and configuration before ordering.
