About the real subject
The Merlin-powered P-51B transformed the Mustang into an effective high-altitude, long-range escort fighter. It used the Packard V-1650-3 engine and four .50-calibre wing-mounted machine guns, and served prominently with the USAAF over Europe from late 1943.
