About the model kit

The Dassault Super Mystère B2

The Super Mystère B2 was the culmination of a Dassault aircraft family that began with the Ouragan and continued with the Mystère II and Mystère IV.

Unlike its predecessors, which mainly exceeded the speed of sound in a dive, the SMB-2 could fly faster than Mach 1 in level flight. It became the first level-flight supersonic aircraft to enter French Air Force service and the first Western European supersonic aircraft to be mass-produced.

The first SMB-2 flew on 15 May 1956 and entered French service in 1958. It was powered by a French SNECMA Atar 101G turbojet with afterburner.

Designed as a fighter-bomber, it carried two 30 mm DEFA cannon and underwing hardpoints. French fighter wings operated it until 1977.

The SMB-2 was also exported to Israel. Some Israeli aircraft were later sold to Honduras, where the type continued operating for several years.
