About the real subject
The P-51B and P-51C combined the Mustang airframe with the Packard-built Merlin engine, providing the range and high-altitude performance needed for bomber escort. The two designations mainly reflected production at Inglewood and Dallas. Early aircraft retained the framed canopy represented here.
