What does model scale mean?
A 1/72 model has each linear dimension of the real aircraft divided by 72. One centimetre on the model represents 72 centimetres on the full-size subject. The larger the number after “1/”, the smaller the finished model: 1/72 is smaller than 1/48, while 1/24 is much larger.
How to calculate the size of a model
Model dimension = full-size dimension ÷ scale denominator. Use the same unit on both sides.
For an aircraft 12 metres long, or 1,200 cm:

1/72 aircraft model kits
1/72 is compact, widespread and excellent for building themed collections. It also keeps bombers, transports and other large aircraft to manageable dimensions.

Limitations

1/48 is a popular compromise. Cockpits, instrument panels, undercarriage and surface detail are easier to see and work on, while a single-engine fighter normally remains manageable.

1/32 aircraft model kits

The scale also provides room for airbrush shading, wiring, resin, photo-etched metal and 3D-printed details. However, large surfaces make poor seams and uneven paint more visible, and display-space needs increase sharply. Scale permits detail but does not guarantee that the manufacturer included it.
1/24 aircraft model kits
1/24 is a very large aircraft scale. A real aircraft ten metres long becomes roughly 41.7 cm, and the wingspan can easily approach or exceed 50 cm.
It can showcase cockpits, engines, structure, controls, landing gear and weathering as a centrepiece. In return, it needs a large work area, protected storage during assembly and a suitable display case after completion.
